Sample Letters to Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco

Dear Paul,

As you are fully aware, NBC took the show off the air after 6 episodes and only offered it on the internet through NBC.com and Itunes. This was, of course, disconcerting since I had fallen in love with the show and the characters as had many other fans. The fans have started a "Save the Black Donnelly's" campaign! You can visit the website at www.thefirecrackerlounge.com. Also, check out the boards on NBC.com to see what the fans are saying.

NBC never gave this drama a chance. It was poorly marketed and then they took if off the air and replaced it with a reality show that really bombed. The popularity of the show has grown due to the fans! TBD is a fabulous show. I don't get into too many TV shows but was hooked after the second episode. I couldn't wait for Monday to come so I could tune in and see what happened next! The writing is unbelievable and the acting is awesome! I really hope to see the second episode and subsequent episodes on another network.

I am not sure how everything works in tvland but hope that you have the influence to get this show back on the air on another network. TBD is a great story and needs to be taken to completion!

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Haggis,

I am writing on behalf of The Black Donnelly fans. You might have heard that we are campaigning to bring the show back on another network and currently targeting HBO. We have a campaign website www.savetheblackdonnellys.net and meet at www.thefirecrackerlounge.com to discuss the show, etc. We were thrilled to see that the first season was being aired on HDNet. We hope that this means more seasons for TBD.

I know you are extremely busy and we appreciate any time you could give us. We would like to know a couple of things if you have a moment to respond.

What are the chances that TBD will be picked up by another network?

Is HBO the network to target? If not, do you have any suggestions?

Is there anything else we should be doing that will make a difference on subsequent seasons?

I really do appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you. My information is listed below.

Best Regards,

Dear Mr. Paul Haggis:

I am writing to thank you and Mr. Moresco for creating the amazing show The Black Donnellys.

Honestly, I had no intention of watching it when I saw one of the few advertisements that NBC aired. It wasn't that it didn't look interesting; I just didn't want to devote another hour to television as I am already a fan of several other shows, Heroes being one of them. Luckily, TBD premiered after Heroes and my TV was still on. I was working on the computer and within minutes I was glued to the television screen curious as to what would happen next.

I was hooked from the first episode. The way you developed the characters and had the viewers empathize with the Donnellys was amazing. I'll be honest; they're really not good guys with the exception of Tommy. If not for your superb writing, there's no way I could have felt like I understood or could justify why they were doing the things that they were doing. Every episode was like a mini-movie and I never knew what to expect. I've always tried to figure out what will happen in movies or dramas and up until Donnellys I did a pretty good job. Absolutely nothing I thought would happen actually did and that, in my opinion, is the way it should be. In fact, at the end of most every episode I was left with my mouth wide open because I never saw it coming. Now that's good TV!

I'm not sure if you're aware but Donnellys has been very successful in iTunes rankings and currently ranks #11 for top TV Seasons in drama. That's very impressive considering that it hasn't been on TV for several months. Fans of the show are really hoping that another network will give it a second season. I honestly hope it works out but if not, I'd like to ask if you and Mr. Moresco would consider a book or a movie just so we're not all left wondering where the story ends? It's obvious in the writing that you had it all planned out and knew where it was going and if you would just let the fans in on what was in store for the Donnelly boys, we would all be grateful.

NBC really dropped the ball with this one. I don't think that they gave it a fair chance from the beginning but more importantly, they led fans to believe that there was still hope when they had already made up their minds. I was very disappointed when they officially cancelled it.

I do wish you all the best in your future projects and am really happy that you introduced me to the Donnelly family!

Dear Mr. Haggis and Mr. Moresco,

My name is _______________and I am ____ years old. The Black Donnellys was the best thing I have ever seen on network TV. I am not the only one who thinks so either. Everything about this show was remarkable and the story is what set it apart from anything we have ever seen.

You have a really loyal following of this show now people have been online everyday trying to tell people how incredible your show is. We have established maybe not the biggest fan base but were working on it. We also know there are enough of us to make this show work. We all now how bad you were treated at NBC with only giving it 5 eps one of which they aired during the NCAA Championship. So many tuned in online to watch the remaining episodes and let me tell you that they were all just getting better and better. I must have said this is the best one yet after each episode.

I know you put a lot of work into this show I read somewhere that you've had it for ten years; please don't give up on it or us. We are really hoping you are fighting for this show even though we know you have other projects. We are fighting too and have been emailing all sorts of stations multiple times a day to be heard. I know you don't have control over that but I hope your at least are pushing your influence towards the idea. Also wanted to let you know that we all can't wait to buy the DVD a lot of us are even planning on buying multiples to help increase profits. I just ask that if you do have anything to do with the DVD release that you try and push it soon with lots of EXTRAS considering we all didn't get to watch the last episodes like they were meant to be watched on our big screens. I hope you are behind us and I wish you luck on everything you do in the future; I'll be watching. If you have any words of encouragement please let me know or if this is a fight that can't be won, I would also like to know.

Thank you for your time and hope you help us save your show.
